Spiritual Gifting During a Financial Crunch

If you are like most people this holiday season, than you might be feeling the financial crunch. Your budget for gifts may not what you have had in the past. This should not be a source of embarrassment or dread, you are being prudent. We are all in the same boat right now. So I would encourage you to remember that this season is about spiritual reconnection and renewal, and the power of love. If you focus on these elements in your gift giving, I am positive that you can use your creativity to devise beautiful gifts of your spirit. These do not need to be costly. They can be letters you write and frame, massages you give, daylong road trips taking someone to a place they’ve always wanted to go, dinners you cook, books you read to someone whose sight is gone, pictures put in a scrapbook, homemade crafts, private musical performances. If the spirit of giving is filled with love, it doesn’t have to have a dollar value on it. It can be –in the words of Mastercard—priceless. Enjoy the creative process of becoming a master of spiritual gifting!

The Secret Life of Bees

This weekend brought a lovely film that demonstrated the power of both love and Conscious Creation. The rapidly growing-up Dakota Fanning plays a 14-year-old living in a lonely household with an abusive and uncaring father after an early family tragedy. Her one desire is to have someone to love her as her mother would have done had she been alive. By the end of this charming film, she had more "mothers" than she can count, all loving her profoundly. It is through the power of her passionate desire for love that she indeed creates it. This film, The Secret Life of Bees, with Queen Latifa as the beekeeper to whom Fanning flees, is well worth the time.

Conscious Creation Tip

Becoming Aware of Love

As we go about our days, we often become insensitive to the power of love in our lives. With all of the other pressures that build up, we often take love for granted. We also sometimes lose sight of our ability to Consciously Create more love in our lives. I have begun doing an exercise that I want to share with you that might help you attract more love in your life, and remember to appreciate what you already do have. Each day, under the heading of “How I Have Given or Received Love Today,” I record at least 10 ways that I have given or received love that day. It could be a friend who signs off a phone call saying “I love you and miss you,” to my hugging my neighbor’s cat. It might be loving myself by putting an extra conditioner in my hair to make it extra soft. It could be listening intently to my brother talk about the important transitions in his life. Perhaps it’s letting someone do something nice for me that I usually insist on doing myself. It might be comforting a friend or family member in pain. By consciously opening ourselves to give and receive love, we are telling the universe that we are ready, willing and available for more—and it is amazing how many ways we discover we are already blessed by small acts of love that we take for granted!
